Design
At less than a half-inch thick, the SLVR L7 redefines the ultrathin phone category. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors resides above the handset’s backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. The VGA camera lens is housed on the rear of the phone, while up/down buttons are placed on the left side. There’s also a highly accessible mini-USB port on the right side of the phone for data synchronization and music transfer, as well as a covered slot for inserting a microSD or TransFlash memory card.

Calling Features
The SLVR L7’s internal phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts while the phone’s picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as music ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. And for times when you want to be discreet, there’s a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, while voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names.

Because the SLVR L7 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The SLVR L7 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound, and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone’s built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is supported and the phone ships with a built-in e-mail client with support for POP3 and SMTP protocols (carrier messaging charges may apply). Plus, there’s a built-in Web browser for downloads and mobile Web browsing. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit–a plus for mobile e-mail and text messaging users.

When used with a carrier data plan and the phone’s Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the SLVR L7, including a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. Use the phone’s Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which can be used with Motorola’s Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.

Imaging and Entertainment
With 5 MB of internal memory storage, plus a memory expansion slot, the SLVR L7 shines in the entertainment department. The phone’s VGA camera features a 4x digital zoom, as well as video capture capabilities (up to 30 seconds in length). Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or e-mail, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message, or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The SLVR L7 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your mood.

At its heart, the SLVR L7 is a music phone. Built-in stereo speakers let you listen while you work or play, and a stereo headset jack makes it easy to jam out in private to your favorite MP3s with the included earbuds.

Last but not least, support for gaming is built into the phone. Have some fun during your downtime!

Vital Statistics
The Motorola SLVR L7 weighs 3.5 ounces and measures 4.5 x 1.9 x .45 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6 hours of digital talk time, and up to 17 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies.

Motorola SLVR L7 Unlocked Phone with Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot–International Version with No Warranty (Black) Review

I realize that the Motorola SLVR L7 is a bit low-tech compared with most moderrn phones, but I still find myself going back to this phone again and again. I’m not a clumsy guy, but I do drop my phone on occaision – my SLVR has been dropped innumeral times but it still does not appear to be damaged and functions fine. Secondly the battery life is incredible, sometimes lasting in excess of a week. Cons – no querty keyboard, poor camera, no 3G, not really any high tech features. This phone is for people who want a phone that functions well as a phone and nothing else. I have owned cell phones since the original car phone days. This is my favorite, it surpasses my wife’s I phone for what I want to do with a phone. Motorola Barrage V860 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

I was in the market for a new phone, and I had the following list of desires:
+ Tetherable wireless modem.
+ Ruggedized
+ Uses the same USB interface as my wife’s and son’s phones

I first ordered a different ruggedized VZW phone, because it was advertised with more features and was well reviewed. The problem was, the other brand of phone did not come with a USB cable, nor was one available. While I was searching around for the cable online, I tried out the extra features, such as the thermometer- it was off by 4 to 6 degrees Farenheit, making it pretty useless. The LED flashlight was nice, but not nicer than being able to surf the WEB surfside.

So, I exchanged it for this much less glitzy Motorola Barrage. I have already used it to get my email and upload documents far from any available Wi-Fi hot spots (cool!) and it has come in handy when I am in the shower and I get an important phone call (like from my wife). It also uses the same cord as the other cell phones in the family, which is great on trips.

It has some other surprisingly useful features. For example, I can make a call without looking at the phone because it pronounces the names of my contacts as I scroll through the list. Also, it is actually very useful to know who is calling without having to put down whatever I am carrying to look at the cell phone display. The voice recognition, e.g., “Call… John… Mobile,” actually work on this phone for me and that is a first.

I already have several great digital cameras, so I always thought having a camera phone was sort of stupid. But the other day I bought something at the lumber store that didn’t have a sticker. No problem, I just snapped a picture of the display tag, and the cashier keyed the SKU right in.

I put one of those 4 GB micro SD cards into the phone for so I can transfer files back and forth from the phone to my laptop, or to other computers. That’s when one gewfy ‘feature’ of the phone showed up. When you first plug it in to the USB cable, you get to choose between “Media Sync Mode” and “Modem Mode.” Choosing “Media Sync” gives you the option to either download music, or NOT. “Not” mode does nothing… nada… Zippo… except to charge the battery. If you want to transfer files or photos, you have to go into “Tools” and select “USB Mass Storage.” But even *that* is gewfy, because there are two menu items that have the phrase ‘USB’. To transfer files, you want the one that results from, “MENU, Settings & Tools, 2. Tools, 8. USB Mass Storage,” and *not* “MENU, Settings & Tools, 9. USB Mode.” Pretty stinkin’ ridiculous, eh?

The bluetooth pairing thingie works, but I can’t get used to making or answering calls on a headset. Plus, people who walk around in public talking to themselves seem icky to me. I might get a car adapter someday, and I am confident this phone will work with it.

Other than that one weird menu glitch, I really, really like this phone. You can buy Cheap Motorola Barrage V860 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Online!
